In attempting to upgrade the event, the first thing which came to mind was reducing the show from four hours to two and a half hours. To achieve this objective, the following steps have been put in place:


There will be eight Cornerstone awardees (in 2006 there were an amazing 32!)

There will be a carefully selected cast of 12 performances (down from 18 in 2006)

We also took into consideration the need for more seating overall, thus the move to the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, increasing our seating capacity by some 450%.

V.I.P. guests will be given even more exclusive treatment, as this time around there will be limited V.I.P. seating. In 2006 there were over 450 specially invited guests consisting of sponsors, government representatives, foreign media, presenters, nominees and nominees’ guests. In 2007, this number will be drastically reduced, as we are aiming to thoroughly pamper our V.I.P’s!

The red carpet entry of the 2006 Barbados Music Awards generated so much attention and awe, that it was telecast as a separate television special on CBC TV8, with clips shown on MTV Tempo, and featured in many international magazines. This year, we have in place a plan to make the V.I.P. entrance even more spectacular, however, as the planned V.I.P. Entrance Special has never been done before in Barbados, we will keep those plans strictly confidential. Patrons MUST be awe-struck on arrival!

More international media representatives will be invited to the second annual Barbados Music Awards, as the event will take the form of a marketing tool for Barbados not only as a musical hub, but also as a tourist destination.

We are hoping that these changes will bring the Barbados Music Awards in line with the American Music Awards, Canada’s JUNOs, the ARIA Awards out of Australia and Germany’s BAMBI awards.
